Starting Reception

Starting school is an exciting milestone for children and their families. It marks the beginning of a wonderful journey filled with new friendships, learning opportunities and experiences that will help your child grow in confidence and independence.

We understand that starting school can bring a mixture of excitement and apprehension. Our aim is to ensure that every child feels happy, safe and supported as they begin their time with us. We are committed to working closely with parents and carers to make the transition into school as smooth and positive as possible.

Preparing for the Big Day

There are lots of simple ways you can help your child feel ready for school:

  • Talk positively about school and the exciting opportunities ahead.
  • Encourage independence with dressing, toileting and eating.
  • Establish consistent bedtime and morning routines.
  • Read stories together and enjoy conversations about their interests and experiences.
  • Promote confidence by helping them spend time with other children and trusted adults.

Remember, every child develops at their own pace and there is no expectation for children to be able to do everything independently from day one.

Our Transition Process

We offer a range of opportunities for children and families to become familiar with school before they start. These may include:

  • Parent information meetings
  • Stay and play sessions
  • Visits to the Reception classroom
  • Opportunities to meet teachers and support staff
  • Transition activities with nurseries and pre-school settings

These experiences help children become familiar with their new environment and build positive relationships before their first day.

Working in Partnership

A successful start to school is built on strong partnerships between home and school. We encourage parents and carers to share information about their child's interests, strengths and any additional support they may need.

Our staff are always happy to answer questions and provide guidance throughout the transition process.
