Support for Service Children and Military Families

    Supporting Our Military Families

At Veritas Primary Academy, we are proud to support children from service families and recognise the unique experiences that military life can bring. While being part of a military family often develops resilience, independence and adaptability, we also understand that periods of deployment, separation from loved ones, relocation and transition can sometimes present additional challenges.

As part of our commitment to ensuring every service child feels known, valued and supported, we are currently developing a dedicated programme of support for our military children and their families.

This programme will continue to evolve as we work with families, listen to pupil voice and develop opportunities that meet the needs of our military community.

    Meet Our Service Child Champion

    Dear Parents, Carers, and Pupils,

As our Service Children Champion, I am the dedicated point of contact for service families within our school community.

As a military wife and a mother of two, I have navigated many deployments alongside my family over the years. Through these experiences, I have gained a deep, personal understanding of how separations due to deployments—as well as last-minute exercises or short-notice deployments—can cause a great deal of stress and anxiety for our children and their families, both at home and at school.

I am truly passionate about caring for our children through every step of this journey—whether they are preparing for an upcoming deployment, currently navigating one, or adjusting after a loved one returns home. Each stage brings its own unique feelings, and my goal is to ensure every child feels supported, heard, and understood during their time at school.

"My mission is to champion every single child—ensuring they have the support, care, and encouragement they need to thrive, regardless of whether their parents are currently deployed or not."

I am so looking forward to getting to know you and your children and working closely with our wonderful school community.

If you would like to discuss any aspect of your child's wellbeing or family circumstances, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

    Parent Deployment Notification Form

One of the first initiatives we are introducing is our Parent Deployment Notification Form.

We understand that parental deployment can be a significant event in a child's life. By letting us know about upcoming deployments, we can ensure that appropriate support is available when it is needed most.

The form will allow families to:

    • Notify the school of an upcoming deployment.
    • Share deployment and expected return dates.
    • Inform us of any concerns regarding their child's wellbeing.
    • Tell us about strategies that help support their child.
    • Request additional support from the school.
    • Update us about changes to deployment arrangements.

Any information shared will be treated sensitively and will only be used to help us provide appropriate support for your child.

    Our Commitment to Service Children

We are developing a comprehensive programme of support to help service children thrive socially, emotionally and academically.
